Florida came into this season with high hopes after returning 16 starters from last year's 9-4 club, and a victory this evening would be the realization of those hopes. The Gators stormed through the regular season, going 11-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play to win the SEC East division and earn a spot in the SEC Championship Game versus Alabama. They beat the undefeated Crimson Tide to capture the conference title and, as a result, jumped to number two in the BCS standings. Urban Meyer's squad is currently ranked number one in the AP Poll.

Florida, whose only loss came in September against Ole Miss, is led by 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, junior quarterback Tim Tebow. Tebow threw for 2515 yards and 28 touchdowns (just two interceptions) to finish with a 176.7 passer rating. He also paced the Gators ground attack, which averages 229.8 yards per game, with 564 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.

The Sooners, who went 11-3 last year, had a remarkable, record setting regular season as they went 12-1 and scored an unprecedented 702 points. Oklahoma finished their conference schedule at 7-1, losing only to the Texas Longhorns in an October battle at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Bob Stoops team, who garnered the Big 12 South title as a result of a tie breaker scenario, went on to capture their third straight Big 12 Championship by beating the Missouri Tigers 62-21 in the conference title match. Oklahoma is the number one ranked team in the BCS standings.
