Shockey Traded to The Saints

Glazer reported on Fox Sports' Web site on Monday that the Saints sent a second-round and fifth-round selection to the Giants for the disgruntled tight end, who missed Super Bowl XLII with an injury.

Glazer quoted a league source that said Shockey must still pass a team physical.

“He’s an impact player, and has been a key part of every offense he has played for – both as a blocker and as a receiver,” said Saints GM Mickey Loomis. “This is a move we have been working on closely with the Giants, and we’re really pleased to add Jeremy to our roster.”

The Giants announced the deal via their Web site.

“Jeremy Shockey was a great competitor and contributor during his years with the Giants,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “We wish him well in New Orleans.”

The Saints offered the Giants a second-round and fifth-round pick for Shockey during the NFL Draft, but were turned down.
